Types Of Dumbbell Sets Available

dumbbells

There are a variety of dumbbell sets available. Here is a breakdown of all available dumbbell weight sets:

Aerobic Dumbbells

Light weight and designed to use during aerobic activity, these dumbbells are very light (and often colorful). You can find these in the cardio class room in your health club. You’ll often find a group of aerobic dumbbells in a large dumbbell rack.

Adjustable Dumbbells

A set of adjustable dumbbells can often replace dozens of traditional dumbbells. Depending on the brand, you can change the weight using a pin or a dial. Some of the more popular adjustable dumbbells include the Powerblocks, Bowflex dumbbells and Ironmaster dumbbells.

Chrome Dumbbells

These nice and shiny chrome dumbbells are a trademark in women’s fitness clubs. The dumbbells do not have a “weight plate” look, and are usually not very heavy (up to 50 lbs).

Commercial “Pro Style” Dumbbells

The weights on these dumbbells resemble weight plates. They’re a common sight in health clubs, with weights ranging from 2.5 lbs to well over 120 lbs.

Hex Dumbbells

These dumbbells are hexagonal in shape, preventing them from rolling around on the floor. Typically hex dumbbells are cast iron, but they are available with a rubber coating.

Rubber Coated Dumbbells

The rubber coating protects the dumbbells from rust, and protects floors from any damage. Rubber coated dumbbells can be found in many shapes, including hex dumbbells and pro-style dumbbells.

Urethane Dumbbells

The urethane coating is a more advance material compared to the rubber coating found on some types of dumbbells. Urethane provides a long lasting “new” look, does not wear out as fast as rubber, and does not peel away from the dumbbell. Also, urethane prevents scuffing and damage to equipment, walls and floors.
