Safety in Dumbells Training

Dumbells training is the most effective method of building strength, since you’re working out with free weights. The movements during dumbbell training are not guided by a fixed path, such as exercising with a gym machine, so your muscles need to exercise harder in order to balance and stabilize the dumbbell. Although training with dumbells is effective, there are some safety precautions to be aware of:

1. The collars on spin-lock based dumbbells can come off if not properly secured, or if there is excessive clashing of the weights while exercising. Make sure that the collars are properly secured on the dumbbells, and if possible, invest in adjustable dumbbells as the weights are more secure.

2. When working out with dumbbells, be aware that your stabilizing muscles will fatigue before your prime movers during the exercise. This can result in loss of control of the dumbells if you try to push for more repetitions. Have someone spot you during your set to minimize any risk of injury.

3. In commercial gyms, be aware of the dumbbells lying around the ground. It is common that the dumbbells are not returned to the dumbbell rack after use, and you may end up tripping over a pair if you’re not looking.
