Rubber Dumbbell
Rubber dumbbell weight sets are fixed weight dumbbells encased in rubber and are usually seen in commercial health clubs. They are effective for preventing damage to floors while working out, and the rubber encasing also prevents the dumbbell weight plates from rusting.
Rubber dumbbells found in health clubs are typically either found in pro-style dumbbells (circular dumbbell weights) or rubber hex dumbbells. Health clubs tend to prefer these weights over the non-rubber weights because along with the protection of exercise floor mats, clients who drop the dumbbells after their set will not end up damaging the floor. And from a health club perspective, a damaged floor is expensive to fix, and also adds an unprofessional look to the gym. Also, since the metal plates are not in contact with oxygen, the weight plates never rust (which makes the dumbbells look old and the health club appear unprofessional), and the rubber encased dumbbells always look as good as new.
