Free Weight Training with Dumbbells Compared To Barbells
Lifting weights with free weights is the most effective form of resistance training. Exercising with dumbbells and barbells are far superior to strength training machines, but how does free weight training with dumbbells compare with barbells?
Dumbbells are More Versatile than Barbells
Dumbbell exercises can be performed using one or two arms, and you can perform alternating motions with dumbbells. Working out with a barbell typically requires symmetric movement of left and right sides. For example, a barbell curl can only be done in one way, whereas the dumbbell curl can be done by curling both dumbbells up, or one at a time. Additionally, you can perform more exercises with a pair of dumbbells.
The range of motion you get from working out with dumbbells is typically greater than barbells as well. You can only lower the bar until it touches your chest during the bench press with a barbell, but with a pair of dumbbells you’re limited by your flexibility.
Weight training with dumbbells is an effective way to exercise and is more versatile than barbells or machines.
