History

Intellbell Inc., makers of the power block dumbbells, was founded by Greg Oldson and Carl Towley in 1991. They have been working for over 10 years in the fitness industry designing exercise equipment for companies such as Cybex and Parabody. After that was completed, they wanted to start their own fitness equipment company. But they didn’t want to be like every other company with similar products…they wanted a product that was unique.

Innovative Ideas

After taking a look around exercise equipment stores, they kept on seeing dumbbells everywhere. There would be dozens of dumbbells displayed on a dumbbell rack. This is a common sight in fitness clubs and exercise equipment stores, but an idea was sparked in their minds. They were thinking that there must be a better way for some to own a free weight dumbbell set, without having to sacrifice the space and costs of all the dumbbells set and dumbbell stands…So the idea of the Power Blocks were born.

Today, the Power Blocks are practically a household name when it comes to quick change adjustable dumbbells. Although there have been other adjustable dumbbells that have come into the market since is release (such as the Select-Tech and IronMaster), the Power Block still remains the most popular and one of the favorites of all adjustable dumbbell manufacturers.
