Adjustable York Dumbbells

The adjustable york dumbbells are based on a “spin-lock” or “screw lock” system. Basically, weight plates are added to the sides of the dumbbell handles, and they are secured by screwing on a collar. The york adjustable dumbbells come with a carrying case, four 5lbs and four 2 1/2lbs chrome plates, two dumbbell handles and four collars.

This is a low cost and portable alternative to fixed weight dumbbells. You can also purchase additional weight plates to increase the load of the dumbbells. However, the additional weight plates cannot be carried with the case.

Adjustable, quick change dumbbells such as powerblocks or bowflex dumbbells work differently than these york spin lock dumbbells. Instead of sliding a plate off and on the handles, the quick change dumbbells only require a change of a pin or a turn of a dial to adjust the weight. This makes weight changing faster and more convenient.
