Adjustable Dumbbell Stands: What They Are, And Whether You Need It
The dumbbell stands available for an adjustable dumbbell set is very different compared to the long and bulky dumbbell racks you would see at a commercial health club. Those long racks you see at a fitness club are designed to hold dozens of traditional dumbbells (such as hex dumbbells), but a rack for the quick change dumbbells are very small in comparison. Since an adjustable dumbbell replaces many dumbbells, it only requires a single platform to hold one dumbbell set.
However, the problem with a dumbbell stand for adjustable dumbbells is that one stand can only be used with one brand of dumbbells. Because the shape varies from each brand of adjustable dumbbells, the shape of the dumbbell holder is different. For example, the Nautilus 552 selecttech adjustable dumbbells have plates that get smaller as you go away from the handle. Also with the adjustable Bowflex dumbbells, the shape of the weight plates are round, and because of these unique characteristics, they can only be used with their proprietary stand. This goes the same as the blocked shaped Power Blocks.
The Ironmaster dumbbells actually need the stand to hold the weight plates, meaning you can’t use their quick change dumbbells without their stand. However, the stand comes with the Ironmaster dumbbells anyways, so it’s really not an additional cost.
