IronMaster Quick Change Dumbbells: Comparable to the Powerblocks with the Feel of Traditional Dumbbells

The Ironmaster quick-lock dumbbell system is one of the cheaper adjustable dumbbell set on the market. These quick change dumbbells are comparable in price to the bowflex dumbbells. But unlike the Bowflex Dumbbell which has a maximum weight of 52.5 lbs, the ironmaster adjustable dumbbells starts with a limit of 75 lbs, and is upgradeable to 120 lbs with an add on kit. The shape of these dumbbells resemble that of the Powerblocks, but it’s lower cost than the Powerblock pro set (maximum of 85 lbs).

The Ironmaster dumbbells also include a dumbbell rack as well!

How IronMaster Dumbbells are Different Compared to Powerblocks And Bowflex

The powerblock dumbbells using a pin method to change the weight, and the bowflex selecttech uses a dial to adjust the weight.
With the ironmaster, it’s a little different. This is what’s included with the ironmaster dumbbell set:
• 2 Dumbbell handles with locking screws

• A Dumbbell rack

• Twenty-four 5 lb weight plates

• Four 2.5 lb weight plates
The chrome plated handles weigh 5 lbs, and the screws are 2.5 lbs each. The handle resembles traditional dumbbells which gives you the look and feel of the real thing.

The ironmaster dumbbells use a “locking screw mechanism”. Basically, you slide on the weight plates onto the dumbbell, and insert the locking screw and tighten them. The weights plate is designed so they interlock with each other, preventing any sort of rattling or spinning of the plates. Once the weights are locked into place, they’re secured pretty tightly.

Although these dumbbells can change from 5 – 75 pounds, having the 2.5lb plates on each side (for a total weight of 15 lbs), the plates appear to be too thin for the screws to keep the plates tight, so they’ll tend to rattle.

Advantages of the Ironmaster Dumbbells:

  • Low cost adjustable dumbbell with a dumbbell stand included
  • Capable of upgrading to 120 lbs for each dumbbell (the only other quick change dumbbell that adjusts to this weight is the powerblocks)
  • The traditional dumbbell design makes you feel like you’re working with regular dumbbells.
  • Lifetime warranty

Disadvantages:

  • Changing the weight is not as fast compared to that of the Powerblocks or bowflex dumbbells.

Conclusion

These dumbbells are great for your home gym. The only other adjustable dumbbell can get as heavy as the ironmaster dumbbells is the Powerblocks. The cost is lower, and the handles are identical to regular dumbbells. Unlike the powerblock handles (which restricts movement of your wrists), you can perform all the exercises of a traditional dumbbell with the ironmaster quick-lock dumbbell system.

Definitely recommended.
