2 Tips When Working Out With Dumbbells
Working out with dumbbells is one of the best ways to build strength and lean muscle mass. But just because you’re exercising with dumbbells doesn’t mean that you’ll automatically attain your goals. You’ll need to workout correctly, and here are some tips to getting the most out of your dumbbell workouts:
Control the Dumbbell
This is probably the most common mistake people make when they’re exercising with dumbbells. You’ll find that a lot of “newbies” to weight training (especially at a health club) will use momentum to move the dumbbells. They’ll thrust their hips and swing the dumbbells during their set. Not only is this potentially dangerous, but you’re not making getting the most out of the exercise!
Command the weight using slow, controlled movements. You want to be controlling the dumbbell as you lift it up, as well as when you lower the weight. Also, at any bottom portion of any exercise, do not bounce the dumbbells.
Correct Breathing
Holding your breath during an exercise can actually make you pass out. Again, this is dangerous, especially if you’re handling a heavy dumbbell above your head. As a rule of thumb, inhale while you lower the weight, and inhale as you contract your muscles and lift the dumbbell.
Use these two simple, but crucial tips when you’re working out and you’ll make the most of your time when you exercise.
