“They Used Dumbbell Weights for the First Time, And Now They’re Sore as Hell!”

If you know anyone who just started exercising and just used dumbbell weights for the first time in their lives, they’re probably going to be extremely sore for the next few days. Resistance training such as working out with dumbbells breaks down the muscles at a microscopic level, and especially for a beginner, the muscle soreness can be somewhat bothersome. The breakdown in the muscles from exercise causes soreness, but this just indicates to the body that it needs to adapt to the new stress from weight training. After a few workouts, your muscles won’t feel as sore from the exercise, and the dumbbell weight you were lifting will seem easier to lift. At this point, in order to workout your muscles so they become stronger, you’ll need to use a heavier weight. And then again, the cycle continues.

So if you’re new to resistance workouts and dumbbell training, don’t worry about the soreness that’s caused by exercising. You can use it as a guide to tell you if the exercises you’re doing are working, and indicate to you when you need to use heavier weights.
